VR and 360-degree eSports viewer Sliver.tv raises $9.8M

Sliver.tv has raised a grand total of $9.8 million at the close of a round of Series A funding for its 360-degree eSports viewing platform of the same name.

As shown in the platform’s eSports debut last year, Sliver.tv sets out to make the process of watching competitive matches more exciting for spectators themselves through the use of its remixed viewing environment for PC, mobile and VR.

The tech allows players to jump between a set amount of 360-degree cameras placed throughout a competitive stage, giving them individual control over how the spectate a live match. Since its launch, Sliver.tv has also built up a number of streaming and view incentives, including a digital coin-based betting platform called Watch & Win.

According to TechCrunch, most players use the customizable viewer from the comfort of their PCs, but as many as twenty percent of recent users spectated using a virtual reality headset. Though Sliver.tv currently only supports Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends, the company has currently signed on with 14 eSports tournaments and boasted a total of 340,000 viewers during its last supported broadcast.

All in all, the $9.8 million funding round was led by Danhua Capital, Heuristic Capital Partners, and ZP capital. Past investors DCM, Sierra Ventures, The VR Fund, Samsung Next Fund, and the Sony Innovation Fund also contributed to the round.
