No Room for Cluck-Ups: KFC Trains Its Employees Using VR

In a report published yesterday by Eater, it was revealed that KFC restaurants have experimented with utilizing VR in teaching employees how to fry chicken.

Used in tandem with an Oculus Rift, the KFC training game is akin to that of an escape room experience, where the user must complete the task at hand within a certain amount of time.

VR and 360-degree eSports viewer Sliver.tv raises $9.8M

Sliver.tv has raised a grand total of $9.8 million at the close of a round of Series A funding for its 360-degree eSports viewing platform of the same name.

As shown in the platform’s eSports debut last year, Sliver.tv sets out to make the process of watching competitive matches more exciting for spectators themselves through the use of its remixed viewing environment for PC, mobile and VR.

HTC Vive gets hefty $200 price cut

 

HTC has cut the price of its Vive virtual reality headset to $599 from $799, meaning those still eager to buy the device can now save a cool $200.

As reported by Polygon, the discounted package comes with the headset, two motion controllers, and two wall-mounted sensors that are used to deliver “room-scale” virtual reality.

Samsung Gear VR app Relumino aids the visually impaired

Relumino is a visual aid app available to Samsung Gear VR users with low vision. Working in conjunction with the rear camera on Samsung Galaxy smart phones, the VR application takes images captured and makes them visually-impaired friendly.

The app features different modes to cater to the needs of the user. Regular mode works by making the environment clear instead of blurry, while Color Invert mode displays text in high contrast so that reading is easier.

Big Immersive to become dedicated VR and AR publisher

Big Immersive has formally announced its arrival to the games industry, and spelled out its desire to become a dedicated VR and AR publisher.

The company was established in November 2016, and has already published three titles: Agelore’s FantasyCity Traffic Control VR, and Love Cubed VR. Despite being active for almost a year, the firm had been flying under the radar until now.

Exhibitor Q&A: Mike Booth of Facebook Spaces discusses the future of social VR

Facebook Spaces is currently in Beta, but the application boasts a new way for people to interact with each other through VR. Described as a virtual environment designed to facilitate a more immersive way to spend time with friends, Facebook Spaces allows virtual avatars to draw 3D objects with virtual markers, video call your friends outside of VR, and transport you to different places.

Mike Booth leads the Facebook Spaces team and will be attending VRDC Fall 2017. He’s scheduled to give the talk Creating Social Experiences in VR. Here, Booth discusses the work he does and what the future of VR looks like for Facebook.
