Google launches ARCore augmented reality SDK

Google has launched a new devkit called ARCore to help budding creators start making augmented reality experiences of their own.

In a nutshell, ARCore is a platform for building augmented reality apps on Android. It uses three key technologies to integrate virtual content with the real world — as seen though your smartphone camera.

Sony drops PlayStation VR bundle price

Sony announced in a blog post that the existing PlayStation VR Worlds bundle, which includes the PSVR headset, PS Camera, two PlayStation Move motion controllers and PlayStation VR Worlds, will retail for $449.00 starting September 1st — a $50 price drop.

No Room for Cluck-Ups: KFC Trains Its Employees Using VR

In a report published yesterday by Eater, it was revealed that KFC restaurants have experimented with utilizing VR in teaching employees how to fry chicken.

Used in tandem with an Oculus Rift, the KFC training game is akin to that of an escape room experience, where the user must complete the task at hand within a certain amount of time.

Sliver.tv has raised a grand total of $9.8 million at the close of a round of Series A funding for its 360-degree eSports viewing platform of the same name.

As shown in the platform’s eSports debut last year, Sliver.tv sets out to make the process of watching competitive matches more exciting for spectators themselves through the use of its remixed viewing environment for PC, mobile and VR.

HTC Vive gets hefty $200 price cut

 

HTC has cut the price of its Vive virtual reality headset to $599 from $799, meaning those still eager to buy the device can now save a cool $200.

As reported by Polygon, the discounted package comes with the headset, two motion controllers, and two wall-mounted sensors that are used to deliver “room-scale” virtual reality.
